25-year-old man arrested for kidnap, aggravated defilement, and murder of 18-month-old girl

Police in Bukedi South and Tororo have apprehended a suspect, Okongo Gerald, aged 25, a resident of Asinga “B” village, Malaba Town Council, for the kidnapping, aggravated defilement, and murder of an 18-month-old female juvenile, Promise Atte.

The incident unfolded on June 30, around midnight, when the girl was last seen playing with a 2-year-old child at Mama Musa’s bar in Asinga “B” Zone, where her mother, Naziwa Grace, was present. The following morning, on July 1, the lifeless body of the young victim was discovered in a cassava garden in Amagoro Central.

Police used a K9 dog to investigate the crime scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The girl was taken from Asinga “B” village, subjected to a brutal assault, and murdered in the cassava garden. She bore severe physical injuries all over her body, especially in her private parts, and a diaper with feces was found at the scene.

In response to the heinous act, the police stated, “As Police, we strongly condemn the vicious physical and sexual assault of the victim. We are going to ensure our Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Department closely follows the matter to its logical conclusion.”
