Police in Luwero district have arrested Gift Namyalo for allegedly strangling to death her co-wife’s one-month-old daughter.
The incident happened on Saturday around 11:00 am in Kabembe village, situated within the Makulubita sub-county. The victim has been identified as Moreen Nakirijja, the daughter of Betty Nakiyimba.
Both Namyalo and Nakiyimba are co-wives to Brian Lule. Reports indicate that Namyalo paid a visit to her mother-in-law’s home, where she happened to witness Nakiyimba heading out to fetch water.
At that moment, Namyalo reportedly entered Nakiyimba’s and strangled the baby before closing the door and attempting to flee. However, her escape was thwarted by Ibra, the uncle of the deceased, who promptly gave chase while sounding an alarm that rallied neighbours to apprehend the suspect.
She was arrested and taken to Makulubita police post.
