National Unity Platform (NUP) Party Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, has provided an update on the health status of Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Ssegirinya Muhammad.

Ssegirinya is currently receiving medical care at UMC Hospital in Amsterdam, where he was transferred from Germany. While he remains weak, Rubongoya conveyed that Ssegirinya’s spirits are high.

Ssegirinya embarked on a journey for specialized medical treatment in Germany earlier this month, prompted by a month-long battle with health challenges, including complications affecting his internal organs, as per reliable sources.

His medical journey began with admission to Lubaga Hospital in Uganda before he was advised to seek care in Germany.

However, his treatment course led him to UMC Hospital in Amsterdam, where he has been receiving care in recent days.

Rubongoya shared that during a conversation with Ssegirinya, the parliamentarian exhibited signs of difficulty while speaking.

Despite this, he expressed optimism, stating, “Thankfully, he is now under the care of a highly skilled medical team. We are hopeful that their expertise will facilitate his recovery and swift return to good health. We extend our gratitude to all comrades who have been consistently checking on him and providing invaluable emotional and psychological support. Our thoughts and prayers are focused on his speedy and complete recuperation.”

Ssegirinya and fellow MP Allan Ssewanyana were arrested in September 2021 on charges of terrorism and murder. After spending two years on remand at Kigo Prison, they were granted bail on February 13, 2023, by Justice Lawrence Tweyanze. Since then, both MPs have faced health challenges, leading to several hospitalizations.
