The police have clarified that they did not arrest Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), but instead provided him with transportation to his home in Magere, Wakiso district.

This morning, Bobi Wine was removed from the plane by security operatives upon landing at Entebbe Airport and quickly escorted into a waiting convoy of vehicles. He was returning to Uganda after concluding an international mobilization tour for his party in Canada and South Africa.

In a statement, the police stated, “We wish to inform the public that the NUP President, Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert, was successfully escorted by our security team from Entebbe to his home in Magere.” They added that Bobi Wine arrived at his home at approximately 11:20 am.

The police also noted that business activities and traffic flow along Entebbe Road, within Kampala and Gayaza, were proceeding without disruption.

“We didn’t want any disruptions within the Kampala and Gayaza. Our teams peacefully drove him to his home. We extend our appreciation to the security agencies for their efforts in maintaining the safety and security of our nation,” reads the police statement.

On Wednesday, the police issued a warning to Bobi Wine’s supporters, who were allegedly planning processions to welcome him. Several supporters were arrested when they attempted to display placards in preparation for his arrival.

At the time of reporting, Bobi Wine had not issued a statement regarding the incident.
