National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, has been arrested upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport.

The former presidential candidate arrived at around 10:20 am but was taken off the plane by plain-clothed security personnel and swiftly escorted into a waiting convoy of vehicles.

The reason for his arrest remains undisclosed. The NUP leader had just concluded an international mobilization tour for his party in Canada and South Africa.

In anticipation of his return, the police had issued a warning to Bobi Wine’s supporters, who were allegedly planning processions to welcome him.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, cautioned that any unauthorized processions would face stringent consequences.

“We have received credible information about NUP leaders organizing alleged welcome celebrations for their president. They plan processions starting from Entebbe through Kitolo, Katabi, Kitala, Kajansi, Kitende, Lubowa, and finally to the city center to Magere. We warn these organizers to cancel such processions, which we are not aware of,” Onyango stated.

On Wednesday, several supporters were arrested when they attempted to place placards in preparation for Bobi Wine’s return.
