Four-time presidential candidate, Retired Colonel Dr. Kizza Besigye, who is 68 years old, has asked Ugandans to support him in removing President Museveni from power before he turns 70.

The opposition strongman, who is on a consultation campaign traversing the country together with the Forum for Democratic Change Katonga faction, said that he does not agree with people who want him on the ballot in 2026.

“By 2026, I will have turned 70, so let us mobilize and remove Mr. Museveni from power now and not wait until 2026,” Besigye said. He rallied the youth to change their minds and engage in ground mobilization in groups to prepare to take over the government.

Besigye further stated that he no longer believes in presidential elections as they are not free and fair. He also advised the opposition to avoid fights, saying this only weakens them as the ‘enemy’ gains more ground.

The return of Besigye to active politics is mainly attributed to identified gaps in operational methods and performance curves in the opposition. Many anticipate that he will be on the presidential ballot in 2026.
