Police in Kampala have started investigating a double murder in which a man who had beheaded his girlfriend was lynched by an angry mob in Jjuuko zone, Makindye division.

The incident happened this morning when a man, only identified as Kkonde, beheaded his girlfriend, Sharon Rukundo, 19.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the two had been lovers for about two years and had a child together.

He further stated that the couple had recently developed misunderstandings, which prompted Rukundo to leave their rented house and go to her aunt’s place in Makindye.

It is reported that she started working with her aunt, who operates a restaurant.

Onyango said that statements obtained from the locals revealed that this morning, Kkonde came to the restaurant with a panga and beheaded Rukundo.

He attempted to flee but was captured by a mob that lynched him. The police were alerted and transported the bodies to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem as investigations into the double murder commence.
