How security operatives rescued Egyptian Diplomat from kidnappers who demanded a Shs 147 million ransom

Security operatives have rescued Muhammad Ali Abdul Amidu, an Egyptian national and official at the Egyptian Embassy, from kidnappers.

The diplomat was abducted on November 8, 2024, by unidentified assailants on Zanna Entebbe Road and taken to an unknown location.

According to Rusoke Kituuma, a police spokesperson, the kidnappers demanded a hefty ransom of $40,000 (about Shs148 million), threatening to harm Amidu if their demands weren’t met.

The Embassy reported the case to Jinja Road Police Station. Security operatives attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit and the Directorate of Intelligence Services of the UPDF began tracking the suspects and monitoring their movements.

“On November 13, 2024, around 2:00 PM, officers intercepted the kidnappers while they were heading to Pearl Motel in Buloba, Wakiso District,” said the police, adding that the kidnappers were traveling in a Toyota Noah with registration number UAZ 247S, which had three occupants.

According to police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, during the confrontation with the suspects, one was shot dead, and Muhammad Ali Abdul Amidu was rescued unharmed.

Currently, two suspects are in custody in connection with this kidnapping, and the investigation is ongoing.
