A Subaru driver captured on CCTV attempting to run down a traffic officer at a Jinja Road intersection has been fined Shs 600,000 after pleading guilty to careless driving.

Isaac Mukwaya, a 35-year-old psychologist from Mutungo, Nakawa Division in Kampala, accepted a plea bargain and admitted to the offense, opting for a reduced sentence instead of a full trial.

Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi of Buganda Road Court ruled that if Mukwaya fails to pay the fine, he will serve a six-month prison term at Luzira Prison.

Prosecutor Ivan Kyazze told the court that on June 12, 2023, Mukwaya drove a Subaru Forester (UAZ 515C) recklessly at the Lyca Mobile Company parking lot in Kampala, disregarding other road users. The state also accused him of ignoring a traffic signal and failing to stop at the Jinja Road lights when directed by Officer Katongole Jotham, who was performing his official duties.
