Police, in collaboration with the army, conducted an operation targeting suspected criminals who had been terrorising the local community near Lubigi swamp.

These individuals were reportedly involved in a spate of robberies, including snatching mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting commuters.

During the operation, the security teams discovered makeshift grass shelters hidden in the bush, which the criminals had been using as a base for their illegal activities.

A search of the area uncovered a variety of items believed to have been stolen from their victims. The criminals were known for preying on workers commuting to and from their jobs, stealing motorcycles, mobile phones, cash, and other valuables.

Among the recovered items were 15 motorcycle number plates, six motorcycle side mirrors, a padlock with keys, two motorcycle locks, seven mobile phones, a watch, a wallet, motorcycle logbooks, a robot radio, a smoking pipe, a motorcycle rear light, a solar battery, and cash in Somali and Ugandan shillings.

Additionally, the team seized breaking implements, including pangas, knives, pliers, screwdrivers, chisels, and spanners, which were likely used in their criminal activities.

The operation also led to the arrest of three suspects: Niyonzima Richard, a 28-year-old male, Kiiza David, a 42-year-old male, and Ngobi Ali, a 21-year-old male.

The suspects are now in custody, and further investigations are underway to bring them to justice and dismantle the network of crime in the area.
