A man in Bugembe, Jinja City, set his house on fire, killing his wife and nine-month-old daughter before taking his own life. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Edirisa Isabirye, a 25-year-old boda boda rider, is reported to have placed a burning charcoal stove under the bed with the intention of killing his wife, Mirabu Kakazi, aged 17, and their daughter, Mirabu Munana.

After the fire engulfed the entire room, Isabirye reportedly used a bedsheet to hang himself.

Kiira Region Police spokesperson SP James Mubi confirmed the incident, saying that preliminary investigations indicate the couple had a troubled relationship and frequently engaged in physical altercations.

“Reports indicate that their relationship was strained, with continuous arguments and emotional distress,” Mubi said.

He urged couples to prioritize mutual respect, trust, and open communication or seek advice from elders and other concerned authorities.
