Faridah Nambi, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate in the Kawempe North by-election, has officially withdrawn her petition seeking a vote recount.
Nambi had initially petitioned the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court, contesting the election results after the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, Elias Nalukoola, was declared the winner on March 14.
However, in a letter dated March 25, Nambi, through her legal representatives Atwijukire Dennis Advocates, informed the court that the petition was no longer relevant.
According to her legal team, the Electoral Commission had already gazetted the election results, officially confirming Nalukoola as the elected MP, rendering the petition unnecessary.
“We have instructions from the applicant to withdraw the above application. The Electoral Commission has already gazetted Mr. Elias Nalukoola, and so the application has been overtaken by events,” the withdrawal letter stated.
The Electoral Commission had on March 24 officially published the results of the Kawempe North by-election, confirming Nalukoola Luyimbazi’s victory. He secured 17,764 votes, while Nambi finished second with 8,593 votes in a 10-candidate race.
