Budadiri West Member of Parliament and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, will contest for the presidency in the 2026 general elections, according to fellow FDC member and Soroti West MP, Jonathan Ebwalu.

Speaking in an interview on NTV this morning, Ebwalu stated that Mafabi’s presidential bid is no longer speculation, as he will be picking nomination forms from the FDC headquarters to contest as the party’s flagbearer in the 2026 presidential election.

“I want to authoritatively confirm that it is no longer a rumor. Mafabi will contest for President of Uganda,” Ebwalu said.

He further explained why they believe Mafabi qualifies to run for the top office, describing him as a formidable candidate.

“He is a trained lawyer, accountant, and teacher—an all-round professional with a deep passion for good governance. His track record speaks volumes, and he is fit for the job,” said Ebwalu.

The FDC Electoral Commission today officially opened the process for choosing the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2026 general elections. The process of picking nomination forms will continue until tomorrow, May 1.

Nandala Mafabi has been representing Budadiri West in Parliament since 2001, having won five consecutive elections. He won the last election with an impressive 85 percent of the vote.

At the party level, the outspoken politician has been rising through the ranks in FDC, a party where he is expected to become the next party president as he prepares to run for the country’s top office.
