The Electoral Commission in Uganda has announced that today, June 10, 2025, is the last day for nominations for village committee elections for special interest groups, including youth, persons with disabilities, and older persons.

According to Julius Mucunguzi, spokesperson for the Electoral Commission, the nominations started on June 2 and will conclude today. “Today is the last day for nomination of all those who want to contest, participate, and offer themselves to lead and be part of village committees for youth, for persons with disabilities, and for older persons,” Mucunguzi said.

The Electoral Commission offices at sub-county headquarters, division wards, and town councils across the country will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to facilitate the nomination process.

To participate in the village committee elections, youth must be between 18 and 30 years old, while older persons must be 60 years and above. Persons with disabilities must meet specific criteria outlined in the law.

Mucunguzi emphasized the importance of participating in the electoral process, stating, “Your vote is your voice.” The special interest group elections are critical, as they mark the beginning of the 2025-2026 general elections roadmap.

After the nominations, the campaign period will run from June 12 to June 14, followed by the elections on June 16, 17, and 19 for older persons, persons with disabilities, and youth, respectively.
