The Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has confirmed that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will officially pick his expression of interest forms on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The forms will be collected from the NRM party headquarters located on Kyadondo Road in Kampala.

Dr. Odoi revealed that Museveni—who is currently serving his sixth term as President of Uganda—intends to seek the party’s endorsement as its presidential flag bearer in the upcoming 2026 general elections. In addition, the President will also pick nomination forms to contest for the position of National Chairperson of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), the highest decision-making organ of the NRM.

The election of CEC members is scheduled to take place on July 4, 2025. Other interested candidates seeking positions within the CEC will begin collecting their nomination forms starting Thursday, June 26.

In the meantime, the NRM Election Committee continues to process nominations for party aspirants seeking to represent the party in various elective positions during the 2026 polls. The nomination exercise, which began earlier this month, will conclude on June 30, 2025.

According to Dr. Odoi, the NRM expects to nominate more than 2,000 aspirants vying for different political offices, ranging from local government to parliamentary positions, across the country.

The nomination of President Museveni is expected to draw widespread attention as it sets the stage for what could be his seventh consecutive bid for the presidency under the ruling party’s banner.
