Police in Kasangati, Wakiso District, have launched an investigation into the death of Senior State Attorney Fatuma Bbuye Nabiwemba, whose body was discovered inside her home in Wampeewo on Thursday evening.

Nabiwemba, 47, served as an Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). She was reportedly last seen alive on Monday, July 7. Her body was found in a decomposing state after neighbours, alarmed by a foul smell and swarming flies, broke into her home.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that the deceased was found lying unresponsive on her bed with no visible signs of physical injury.

“She was discovered inside her residence in Wampeewo, Kasangati Town Council, where she lived alone. The body showed no external injuries,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement.

The case was reported to police at around 8:36 p.m. by Hamuza Kabanda, a driver from the DPP headquarters, following the neighbours’ intervention. Detectives from Kasangati Police Station visited the scene and carried out a detailed search, recovering several items deemed relevant to the investigation.

Among the items found was a document from Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital, suggesting that Nabiwemba had previously sought mental health support.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of death, including the possibility of natural causes, suicide, or other contributing factors.
