A state prosecutor attached to Nebbi has been found dead at his rented home in Nebbi Municipality after failing to report to court on Monday morning.
Emmanuel Bumbi Naguyo, who served as a Deputy Resident State Attorney, was found dead in his room in Riverview Cell, Central Ward, near Tokyo House.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Naguyo’s colleagues became concerned when he failed to appear in court to handle cases on behalf of the State.
They reportedly tried to reach him by phone several times but received no response. One of the officials then went to his residence to check on him but found the house locked.
Police were alerted and reportedly forced their way into the residence, where Naguyo was found dead at about 10am.
The ODPP confirmed his death in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Jacquelyn Okui, describing the news as a major loss to the institution.
“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is deeply saddened to announce the death of one of its State Attorneys, Mr Emmanuel Naguyo,” Okui said.
She said the news had shocked the ODPP fraternity and extended condolences to Naguyo’s family, relatives, friends and colleagues.
“The Office extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” the statement added.
Naguyo had served as a State Attorney for three years, working alongside fellow prosecutors in handling cases on behalf of the State.
The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately provided.
