National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro has alleged that his recent arrest was orchestrated by Nakawa East Member of Parliament (MP) aspirant Michael Kabaziguruka, who is also his political rival and the chairperson of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) Electoral Commission.

Waiswa made the accusations this morning as he was brought to Kawempe Magistrate’s Court in Kanyanya to be formally charged.

The NUP deputy spokesperson was arrested on Monday at the same court premises and has since been in the custody of security operatives.

According to Waiswa, while in detention, he was asked to stop supporting Robert Kyagulanyi, something he apparently refused.

He further stated that he is also accused of being part of the parade organised by NUP at their headquarters in Makerere-Kavule earlier this February.

“I wasn’t part of the parade as I was not even around,” he said.

On Monday, five more NUP members—Tasi Calvin, also known as Bobi Giant, Lukenge Sharif, Nyanzi Yasin, Kaweesi Tonny, and Ssemakula Edwin—were added to the charge sheet for the said illegal parade. The first to be charged were Edward Ssebuufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, and Achileo Kivumbi. The matter was adjourned to 29 September 2025.

On Tuesday, Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) spokesperson Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye said that whoever participated in the illegal parade at the NUP headquarters in Kavule will be brought to court.
