Electoral Commission (EC) has released the harmonised campaign programme for all eight presidential candidates ahead of the 2026 general election. The campaigns officially kick off today, 29 September 2025, and will run until January 2026.

The programme, which details when and where each candidate will hold rallies across the country, was agreed upon during a series of harmonisation meetings convened by the EC at its headquarters on 7th Street, Industrial Area, Kampala.

According to the Commission, the meetings were conducted in line with the Presidential Elections Act, which mandates the EC to determine the manner and period of campaigns and to publish and gazette such information.

Why the harmonised programme matters

The Commission explained that the purpose of the joint schedule is to promote orderly, peaceful, free and fair campaigns, preventing clashes between candidates and ensuring equal access to voters.

Where gaps appear in the schedule, officials clarified, it is because the candidate chose to rest on that day or use it for other private tasks. Campaigns are to run strictly between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Candidates sign commitment

All eight candidates—through their official agents—signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) pledging to respect the agreed programme. They were also issued with a copy of the campaign guidelines, which outline how they are expected to conduct themselves during the election period.

In a statement, the EC noted: “The harmonised programme was developed, agreed upon and signed by all candidates’ representatives to ensure that campaigns are conducted smoothly, without conflict, and in an environment that upholds the principles of fairness and transparency.”

The eight presidential candidates are: incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, flag bearer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM); Elton Joseph Mabirizi, flag bearer of the Conservative Party; Robert Kasibante, flag bearer of the National Peasants Party; Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, of the National Unity Platform (NUP); Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC); Mubarak Munyagwa of the Common Party; Mugisha Muntu of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT); and Frank Mulira of the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP).
