The former premier, who served between 2008 and 2013, was widely credited with guiding the nation through a period of reconciliation and constitutional reform. Known for his passionate oratory and strong grassroots ties, he became a central figure in shaping the country’s democratic journey.

He also played a key role in negotiating a power-sharing agreement that ended a major political crisis following disputed elections, championing dialogue and inclusive governance.

Until his death, he remained an influential figure in national politics, leading one of the country’s major opposition parties and contesting several presidential elections.
