Musician and aspiring Busiro East legislator Sir Mathias Walukaga has said that by the time he was disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) last week over alleged lack of the minimum academic qualifications for nomination, he had already spent heavily on his campaign.

In a TikTok video, the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for Busiro East said his campaign activities were already in full swing and required substantial financial investment.

“By the time the EC disqualified me, my campaigns were in high gear. I had spent all the money I had and even sold some of my property to finance the campaign,” Walukaga said.

He added that he is now concentrating on raising money to pay legal fees for the lawyers representing him in court.

“I have to look for their fees. I am hopeful that I will be able to raise the money,” he said.

Last week, Walukaga, through his lawyers Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi and Alex Luganda, filed a petition in the Civil Division of the High Court seeking to overturn the EC’s decision.

He argues that he meets the required academic qualifications, which he says are equivalent to the Senior Six certificate, and maintains that the Commission acted without jurisdiction in rejecting his nomination.

Speaking to the media, lawyer Nalukoola expressed confidence in their case, insisting that Walukaga has met all the legal requirements and should be allowed to continue in the race as the NUP flag bearer for Busiro East.

The Electoral Commission disqualified Walukaga on the grounds that he did not meet the minimum academic requirements for nomination. The Commission ruled that the Certificate of Mature Age/Aptitude Test he presented during nomination had expired by the time it was submitted on October 23, 2025.
