Police in the Kampala Metropolitan area have carried out a series of coordinated operations targeting criminal hideouts, leading to dozens of arrests and the recovery of suspected stolen items.
In Kira Road areas of Mulimira and Kyebando, officers arrested 31 suspects during an operation led by the Division Police Commander. The suspects are currently being held at Kira Road Police Division as screening and fingerprinting continue.
In Ntinda’s Kigowa area, a police patrol disrupted a group of suspected criminals. The group fled on sight, leaving behind weapons and tools believed to be used in break-ins, including pangas, hammers, iron bars, and fuel containers. Two suspects were later found hiding in a nearby garage and arrested. Early investigations suggest the group may have been planning an arson attack linked to a land dispute.
In Nateete’s Kanaala Zone, police arrested a suspect found with four motorcycles believed to be stolen, along with several number plates. Authorities are working to confirm ownership.
Meanwhile, in Entebbe’s Bunono and Guda areas, 31 suspects were arrested in operations targeting theft, burglary, and vandalism. They have since been charged and are awaiting court.
In Kasangati Division, covering Wampewo, Gayaza, and Kijabijjo, more than 47 suspects were arrested, mainly from betting centres and known crime hotspots. Police also uncovered an illegal garage in Kijabijjo where stolen motorcycles were allegedly dismantled. Two suspects were arrested, and several motorcycle parts and number plates were recovered.
Police say criminals are increasingly using betting centres, unfinished buildings, and temporary structures as hideouts. Operations are ongoing to dismantle such networks.
All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with police vowing to sustain the crackdown to improve public safety across the city.
