At least 60 suspected criminals have been arrested during a series of coordinated security operations across Kampala and Mukono aimed at tackling street crime, house break-ins, robberies and drug-related offences.
The operations, conducted by the Kampala Metropolitan Police alongside other security agencies on the nights of 7 and 8 July, targeted known criminal hideouts and crime hotspots in Kiwempe, Kibati (Kansanga), Mutungo Zone 1 (Kunya), and the Bajjo and Ntinda areas of Seeta in Mukono District.
In Kabalagala Police Division, officers arrested 30 suspects from a location believed to have been used to plan criminal activities. Police said the operation followed repeated complaints from residents about house break-ins and simple robberies in Kiwempe, Kibati and neighbouring areas.
The suspects were charged with being a public nuisance and are currently being screened to identify those with no involvement in criminal activities and separate them from individuals linked to offences.
In Seeta, Mukono District, another operation led to the arrest of 22 suspects from the Bajjo and Ntinda crime hotspots. Police said some of those arrested were found with suspected opium and were charged with drug-related offences.
Investigators also believe several of the suspects are connected to phone snatching, robberies and drug abuse based on preliminary findings.
Meanwhile, in Mutungo Zone 1 (Kunya) under Jinja Road Police, officers arrested eight male suspects during a raid on hideouts allegedly used by criminals involved in robberies and drug abuse.
All eight remain in police custody and are awaiting prosecution.
Police said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve security across the Kampala Metropolitan area.
