President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Juma Witonze Kisekka as the new Minister of State for Internal Affairs.
Witonze is the National Resistance Movement (NRM) vice-chairperson for Gomba District and also serves as the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) coordinator for Greater Mpigi.
His appointment comes after Parliament’s Appointments Committee rejected the President’s earlier nomination of Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Lawrence Muganga for the same position.
Muganga’s nomination was reportedly rejected over concerns about his citizenship status, with reports linking him to Ugandan, Canadian and Rwandan citizenship.
Witonze is not new to elective politics. He previously sought to represent Uganda in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
His appointment now awaits the completion of the required parliamentary approval process before he can formally take up the ministerial role.
