Former NBS Television news anchor Solomon Serwanjja has been elected LC1 chairperson of Bamutakudde Village in Mukono North after securing a dramatic one-vote victory in a closely fought election.
Running as an independent candidate, Serwanjja polled 106 votes to narrowly defeat National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Lule Badru Ssozi, who received 105 votes. The election featured three candidates.
His victory comes after a competitive campaign that drew significant public attention, with many following the race because of his background in journalism and investigative reporting.
Serwanjja previously worked at NBS Television for six years before leaving the broadcaster in 2021. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the African Institute for Investigative Journalism.
As LC1 chairperson, Serwanjja will lead the village’s Local Council I, the lowest level of local government in Uganda. The role includes overseeing local administration, resolving community disputes, coordinating security matters and supporting development initiatives within the village.
