A man accused of masquerading as a lawyer and representing a client in court without the legal qualifications has been remanded to Luzira Prison after appearing before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Andrew Nsubuga Sekibaamu Jenkins, 28, a resident of Najjera in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, appeared before Senior Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko on Tuesday, where he was charged with two offences related to the illegal practice of law.

Prosecutors allege that between February and December 2025, Nsubuga unlawfully acted as an advocate for Nagadya Linda Witney in Civil Suit No. 188 of 2024 before the High Court Land Division in Kampala, despite not being authorised to practise law in Uganda.

The prosecution further claims that during the same period, he knowingly misrepresented himself as a qualified advocate even though he was not recognised by law to offer legal services.

Nsubuga denied both charges when they were read to him in court.

The magistrate subsequently remanded him to Luzira Prison until 19 August 2026, when he is expected to return to court for further proceedings.
