Police have arrested three suspects accused of impersonating police officers and allegedly targeting foreign nationals for robbery and extortion in Entebbe.
The three were arrested on Saturday, 29 August 2026, after they allegedly entered an apartment in Division A, Entebbe Municipality, and confronted a foreign investor.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects were dressed in civilian clothes but claimed to be police officers carrying out official duties. They allegedly demanded the investor’s passport and money.
Their alleged scheme was, however, interrupted after a member of staff at the apartment became suspicious and alerted officers from the Counter-Terrorism Tourism Unit.
The officers quickly responded to the scene and arrested all three suspects before they could leave the premises.
A search conducted on the suspects reportedly led to the recovery of two suspected forged police warrant cards, which police believe may have been used to convince victims that they were genuine law enforcement officers.
The suspects have been identified as Osire John Pius, Girengero Pius and Emogu Julius.
They are currently being held at Entebbe Police Station as investigations continue.
Preliminary investigations have linked the trio to at least two other incidents involving foreign nationals in Entebbe. Police suspect that the group robbed tourists in Manyago about two weeks ago and, a week later, allegedly targeted and robbed Indian nationals in Kitooro.
Police believe the suspects deliberately targeted foreign nationals in areas frequently visited by tourists. The group allegedly used suspected forged security identification documents to pose as officers on official duty, gain the trust of their victims and then rob or extort them.
The suspects are expected to be processed in accordance with the law as police investigate whether more people may have fallen victim to the alleged scheme.
