King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV has been laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal City, bringing his 31-year reign to an end.

The burial, which took place at around 5pm on Saturday, came later than the customary time observed in Tooro Kingdom. According to Tooro Kingdom norms, the Omukama is expected to be buried before 3pm.

Reports indicate that the delay followed a standoff between members of the Babiito clan and Queen Mother Best Kemigisa.

The situation was reportedly resolved after President Yoweri Museveni intervened through Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa and Minister Gen Henry Tumukunde.

The newly installed Omukama, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, performed the final burial ritual for the late King Oyo.

The late King was accorded a seven-gun salute during the ceremony, which was held under tight security.

Members of the public were not allowed access to the royal tombs as the burial rites were carried out.
