Panga-wielding thugs attack police station in Kasese, one shot dead

A group of suspected thugs armed with pangas attacked Bugoye Sub-County Police Station in Kasese District in the early hours of Thursday, 1 October 2026, leaving one of the attackers dead.

The incident happened at around 2am when a group of about six people reportedly attacked the police station and attempted to disarm the police officer on duty.

Police said the officer resisted the attack and shot one of the suspects in the leg.

The injured suspect fled the scene but was later found dead a short distance from the police station.

The identity of the deceased had not been established by the time of reporting.

Police have, however, arrested four people in connection with the attack. They have been identified as Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi.

A panga was recovered from the scene, while the deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
