Two mechanics were killed and three other people injured when a gas cylinder exploded at a garage in Ireda Central Park Cell, Lira City, on 10 October 2026.
The explosion occurred at about 6pm as the mechanics, identified as Okabo James and another man known only as Daniel, were repairing a motorcycle using a gas cylinder.
According to preliminary police findings, the cylinder suddenly exploded, killing the two mechanics instantly and injuring three people who were nearby. The incident happened in a busy market area where several members of the public were present.
The injured were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the same facility for postmortem examinations. Police said the identities of the injured had not yet been established.
The explosion also damaged a stationary white trailer, registration number UA 732DX, after a fragment from the cylinder struck its front bumper and windscreen.
A further examination of the scene revealed the severity of the blast. One of the deceased sustained injuries that dismembered parts of his body, while the other suffered severe head injuries.
The wreckage of two motorcycles involved in the incident was taken to Lira City East Division Police for further management.
