Equity Bank Uganda has this morning signed a partnership deal with Uganda’s iconic football club, Express FC worth one hundred million shillings.

Speaking at the partnership signing, Anthony Kituuka, the Executive Director at Equity Bank Uganda, said; “Equity Bank Uganda understands the importance and impact of football in our communities and Uganda in general. The bank has designed a digital card dubbed ‘Equity Express card’ that will be issued to club members and partners to access various services. The card will also be used to purchase tickets to watch all the club matches.

“The card will not only serve as members’ identification, but it is a bank VISA chip and pin card that allows them to access ATM, EquiDuukas, make payments and shop online,” Mr Kituuka explained.

“With the partnership, Equity Bank Uganda is contributing towards the continued growth and development of the club, the community and Uganda as country. It is our reaffirmation that Equity Bank Uganda is committed to partnerships that demonstrate the ability to empower and transform communities,” he added.

Equity Bank recently celebrated 10 years in Uganda and moved into the new Church House building along Kampala Road. The bank is driving the financial inclusion agenda through the EquiDuuka network and strong digital banking suite.

According to new Express FC Chairman, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the club will always embrace football development and strive to attract partners to the game of football.

“As a club we are excited to have one of the most powerful brands in the banking sector supporting us to build and grow the game of football through digitization. Having Equity Bank as our partner is not only beneficial to Express FC but the entire football fraternity in Uganda. Let us support Equity Bank Uganda and all other football partners that are investing into the game,” he added.

Kiwanuka says Express FC will be a title contender in the 2019/2020 Uganda Premier League season.
Express FC has continued to show resilience and growth with the team registering various successes on and off the football field. The new partnership between the top league club and Equity Bank will move to strengthen the team as well as create awareness for the team’s fans and bank’s customers.
