The match after heavy rains started with intense action as the hosts Uganda started on the front foot having several chances at goal. Fans braved the rain and turned up in great numbers despite the downpour.

Farouk Miya came close twice, first with a header at the opponents keeper Manula Salum but his header was directed wide of goal off Nicholas Wadada’s cross from the right edge of the area.

He later failed to connect Joseph Ochaya’s free kick amid tension in the area that could have cost the visitors.

Hassan Wasswa could have been culprit in the 33rd minute but his antics enabled him stave off Tanzanian advances in front of goal.

Five minutes before half time, Ochaya this time seemed to have decided to take matters into his own hands but his effort at goal didn’t yield any fruit despite sending the crowds into a frenzy.

In the second half, Tanzania skipper Mbwana Samatta saw yellow after 64 minutes when he recklessly fouled Uganda’s Murishid Juuko.

Tactician Sebastien Desabre three minutes later made a change, introducing Patrick Kaddu for Ochaya. His intentions were quite clear to have more more men upfront.

The match ended in a stalement but Cranes enjoys 4 point lead.  Uganda plays Lesotho in October.

There were several positives to draw from the game. The dream to play in second successive Afcon is very much alive.
