The much awaited National Basketball League semifinal playoff between reigning champions City Oilers and last year’s finalists KIU Titans is on this Friday at the MTN Indoor Arena, Lugogo. The Titans will be out to get revenge for last year’s loss and dethrone the Oilers in the best of three playoff. The five-time champions romped to a clean 4-0 sweep over KIU Titans in the best of seven series final.

KIU will have to show they can manage a repeat of this year’s regular season heroics where
they pulled off a double win against the Oilers (94-79 and 72-57). To reach this stage, the
university side finished third in the regular season and swept UCU Canons 77-52 and 73-70 in a tight quarter final tie, thanks to Sudi Ulanga, Ethienne Kazungu, Michael Bwanga and Denis Balungu outstanding performances in both ties.

Moneybags Oilers, also clean swept Sharing Youth 84-75 and 81-69 to book their place in their sixth consecutive semifinal. Juruni Mandy’s men are plotting to stretch their title winning dominance to six straight titles and they still have all it takes to achieve the feat with their notable stars Jimmy Enabu, Ben Komakech, Stephen Omony and last year’s MVP Landry Ndikumana all still fully charged.

The other semifinal playoff featuring another title contender Betway Power and JKL Dolphins was played on Wednesday at the Lugogo Arena.
