The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Egypt as the host nation of the 2019 African Cup of nations.

The CAF Executive Committee meeting in Dakar, Senegal ahead of tonight’s Caf Awards was convinced by the submission from the Egyptian delegation.

Egypt beat South Africa on the ballot by 16 votes to one.

Egypt, which will be hosting the continental prestigious tournament for the fifth time (1957, 1974, 1986 and 2006) has just six months to prepare for the expanded 24-team finals, which kick off in June.

Besides the 1974 tourney, the Pharaohs have emerged winners of all the AFCON finals they have hosted.

The 2019 African Cup of Nations was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon before it was stripped of hosting the tournament over gross preparation delays.

Uganda Cranes will be gracing the event for a second year in succession.
