Cranes defender Timothy Awany joins Israeli side Ashdod FC on four years’ deal

Uganda Cranes defender Timothy Awany has finally sealed a deal to join Israeli side Ashdod Football Club. Awany has signed a four year contract.

Ashdod is now Awany’s second club having joined KCCA FC in 2014 from Kibuli SS. During his spell at the Lugogo-based club, the former skipper captained the club to their 13th UPL title last season, 10th Uganda Cup title and the inaugural Pilsner Super 8 tournament last year.

He was also the Captain who led the club to the group stages of the CAF Champions League for the first time ever.

“We would like to thank Timothy Dennis Awany for the 5 years he has been at the club. Awany has signed for FC Ashdod (Israel) for four years. We wish you the very best at your new club,” reads part of KCCA’s official statement about the transfer.

The towering defender has not only proved himself at club level but for long he has been ‘knocking’ at the national team doors and finally got enough playing time at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation in Egypt to show his worth to the world. He featured in two games at AFCON.
