Five-time Uganda Premier League champions, Vipers Sports Club, have unveiled Roberto Luiz Bianchi Pelliser alias Bianchi Beto as their new head coach.

Bianchi Beto was unveiled this afternoon at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The Brazilian joins the Venoms on a two-year deal. He replaces Roberto Oliveira, who recently joined Tanzanian side Simba SC.

“We received a lot of applications from within and outside Uganda, and we had to screen them thoroughly before settling for Beto,” Vipers president Lawrence Mulindwa said.

He added, “We looked for a coach with vast experience, good style, and one that can give us good football.”

“It wasn’t a matter of hand picking, we have a yardstick, and we have some parameters that had to be followed to have a substantial coach to guide us in different competitions.”

Beto will be assisted by Roberto Martinez.

Given that the Vipers will begin competing in the CAF Champions League next month, the appointments are timely.

Who is Beto?

The 56-year-old was born in Itatiba, Brazil. He started his playing career in 1978. As a player, he played as a defender for Spanish clubs Caravaca and Yeclano.

For his coaching career, he managed the Spanish club teams Ciudad de Murcia, Atlético Ciudad, Zamora, and Lorca Deportiva. He also coached in Indonesia and Jordan.

He became manager of the Angola national team in March 2017; at the time, he had been manager of the Angolan club side Petro de Luanda since 2016.

He was replaced by Srđan Vasiljević in December 2017. He left Petro in April 2019. In 2020, he took over as manager of Kuwaiti club Kazma. He left Kazma in June 2021.
