Kibo Media boss Bobkins Kibirige was one of the tens of the thousands of people in the stands as Manchester City lifted the Champions League trophy on Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday.

The football events coordinator was an eye witness as Man City boss Pep Guardiola made history winning the treble for his team for the first time as they edged Inter Milan 1-0. Guardiola had earlier won the English Premier League and FA Cup. It is the second time he is winning the treble, having done it with Barcelona during his stint in Spain.

“It was a tight match with only one goal. The Italians are traditionally very defensive but again, this time Guardiola was very cautious and he played a very defensive game,” Bobkins narrates.

“At some moments it was so tense you could hear a pin drop,” he adds.

“But the stadium went wild when Rodri scored. English fans are something else. It was an euphoric moment you can only witness yourself to understand its magnitude,” he added.

Burna Boy performs at the event.

But his proudest moment was when “African Giant” Burna Boy performed during the event that was broadcast to eight million people across the world.

“It is Africa’s time. It is our time to shine. Imagine the feeling when the main act is a fellow African. I was so proud. I hope in future it will be a Ugandan,” Kibirige who dabbles as a music promoter said.

Bobkins poses by the iconic Champions League “Big Ears” caricature.

As Uganda has placed a joint East African bid to host Afcon 2027, the FUFA affiliated events coordinator says attending such big occasions is important to benchmark and learn the best practices from the best on the world.

“Experience is the best teacher,” he says.  Kibirige has also attended the previous two consecutive World Cup finals and the Ballon D’or; football’s version of the Oscars.
