The Uganda Netball Normalization Committee has confirmed the participation of the national netball team, the She Cranes, in a Test Series against Wales. Committee Chairperson Moses Mwase announced in a press statement on Thursday.

The Test Series, scheduled to take place in Cardiff in January, promises to be a challenging encounter for the She Cranes as they face off against Wales in a thrilling display of netball prowess.

In addition to the Wales Test Series, Mwase revealed that the She Cranes will also be participating in the prestigious Vitality Netball Nations Cup. This highly anticipated tournament will feature some of the world’s netball powerhouses, including Australia, New Zealand, England, and, of course, Uganda. The Nations Cup is set to unfold on January 20-21 at Wembley, London, followed by matches on January 27-28 at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.

“The Normalization Committee is coordinating efforts for the commencement of a Training Camp for the Netball She-Cranes from which a final squad of 12 (twelve) players will be announced. Details of the Training Camp and the She-Cranes Team Travel schedule are being finalized and will be available in due course,” the press statement read.

This announcement comes on the heels of a decision by the normalization committee to opt out of the Africa Netball Championship last month. The committee cited the difficulty of mobilizing the team on short notice amid recent management turmoil as the primary reason for withdrawal.

The turmoil stemmed from a clash between Uganda Netball Federation President Sarah Babirye Kityo and National Council of Sports General Secretary Patrick Ogwel. Kityo accused Ogwel of compelling the Federation to account for funds that were never provided, while Ogwel accused Kityo of misappropriating government funds.
