Officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will be in the country this Wednesday, May 8, 2024, to reassess the newly renovated Namboole Stadium.

This assessment is intended to evaluate the stadium’s readiness to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers games, where the Uganda Cranes will play against Botswana and Algeria next month.

Last Wednesday, Namboole hosted two test matches: BUL vs Vipers during the daytime and KCCA FC under floodlights.

However, during the matches, this website observed issues with the ticketing systems at the stadium, and some Pioneer Buses were still occupying part of the stadium parking lot.

The Media Tribune is now ready, accommodating 350 journalists, with 100 gazetted working stations.

Meanwhile, on Monday, officials led by State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang, National Council of Sports (NCS) chairman Ambrose Tashobya, Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) CEO Edgar Watson, and others spent the day at Namboole going through checklists before CAF’s official visit on Wednesday.

The officials are hopeful that the stadium will be approved to host the World Cup Qualifiers game next month. The initial report from the CAF inspection team indicated that the stadium was still below the required standards, but the UPDF Engineering Brigade stated that they have addressed all the issues during the ongoing renovations.
