South Africa’s SPAR Proteas have once again proven their supremacy in African netball, clinching the 2024 Africa Netball Cup title with an emphatic 65-50 victory over Uganda’s She Cranes in the final.

The triumph, their fourth title in the prestigious competition, cements South Africa’s legacy as the continent’s netball powerhouse, following earlier wins in 2013, 2019, and 2021.

The final showdown, held at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund, Namibia, saw the Proteas seize early momentum and never look back.

Chelsea and Manchester City’s last chance, a test for Barcelona and Liverpool’s revenge: what to expect from the Champions League round of 16 return legs?

They dominated from the outset, taking a 16-12 lead in the opening quarter. By halftime, South Africa had widened the gap to 30-24, placing immense pressure on Uganda to mount a comeback in the second half.

Despite a spirited effort from the She Cranes—led by star goal shooter Mary Cholhok Nuba and captain Irene Eyaru—the Proteas’ relentless attack and impenetrable defense proved too much.

South Africa delivered a decisive 20-9 third quarter, stretching their advantage to a commanding 50-33 heading into the final period.

The She Cranes, who also featured standout players like Gloria Aya at wing defense, Faridah Kadondi as goalkeeper, and Sandrah Nambirige at goal defense, battled valiantly.

However, South Africa’s consistency across the court sealed the win in dominant fashion, as they cruised to a well-earned 65-50 victory.

The Proteas’ clinical performance further solidifies their position as Africa’s top netball team. Uganda’s She Cranes, while disappointed, can take pride in securing the silver medal—their third in competition history.

In a shining individual achievement, Uganda’s Magret Bagala was named Best Centre Player of the Tournament, a testament to her exceptional skill and consistency throughout the competition.
