As the second edition of the Virunga Marathon approaches, all eyes are turning to the breathtaking landscapes of southwestern Uganda. The race categories include 42km, 21km, 10km, and 6km.

Tusker Lite, a beer synonymous with “hydrating” running events has proudly stepped in as the official beverage sponsor for this year’s marathon set for this Saturday, May 31.

“Our brand is for the bold, the adventurous, and those who love to live in the moment. Being a part of this marathon allows us to celebrate our consumers as they continue to break boundaries and reach new heights with their dreams and passions,” said Denise Paula Nazzinda, Brand Manager Premium Beers, UBL.

Tusker Lite will be present along the race routes with dedicated refreshment stations, and the finish line will come alive with a vibrant post-race experience that captures the brand’s signature blend of energy and good vibes.

This partnership also sets the tone for the brand’s build-up to the highly anticipated fourth edition of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon on August 25th. As one of Uganda’s biggest lifestyle sporting events, the marathon will champion causes that matter with a renewed emphasis this year on climate action and sustainability.

“Tusker Lite is proud to support initiatives that align with the preservation of Uganda’s rich natural heritage, especially in ecologically significant areas like the Virunga region and the Rwenzori Mountain ranges,” she added.

Organisers of the Virunga Marathon have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure a seamless and memorable event. With expectations of double the turnout from the 600 participants at last year’s inaugural edition, they anticipate a diverse crowd descending on Kisoro this weekend.

Runners from Kampala and across the country have also been gearing up for the scenic challenge that awaits them come Saturday. With excitement building and final preparations underway, all roads now lead to Kisoro, where participants will converge to experience one of Uganda’s most breathtaking and culturally rich races.

Tickets to the marathon are still available for purchase in Bukoto at Shs70,000 which includes a commemorative t-shirt, a medal, and a marathon bag.
