Construction of Hoima Stadium has reached an advanced stage, with over 80 percent of the work completed just 11 months after the ground-breaking ceremony.

The $130 million project, undertaken by Turkish firm Summa, is progressing faster than anticipated and is now expected to be delivered months ahead of schedule.

The facility is poised for handover as early as September or October, well before the initial 18-month timeline. Once completed, Hoima Stadium will feature a 20,000-seat main arena, a 2,000-capacity mini arena, and a range of modern sports facilities.

This stadium is a flagship project for Uganda, which is preparing to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

According to Summa’s project engineer, Murat Altun, finishing works are already underway. “We have started installing floodlights both inside and outside the stadium, and these will be completed in the coming days. The touchline benches are ready for installation, and the stadium also includes a built-in training facility with a sauna and air conditioning. We are targeting mid-October for the final handover,” Altun said.

With its completion on the horizon, Hoima Stadium is set to become a state-of-the-art sporting hub that will elevate Uganda’s profile in international football and provide world-class facilities for local athletes and fans alike.
