Dominic Musonda has maintained a tight grip on the lead of the Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateurs Open Golf Championship, for three consecutive days.

Musonda, who started with a two-shot lead on day one, at the Lugazi Hills and Country Club golf course, held a one-shot lead on day two, and on Friday regained a two-shot advantage over his most immediate opponent- Joseph Cwinyai. Cwinyai, the Uganda National Team Captain, who remains in second place behind the Zambian national champion.

Ahead of Saturday’s final round, Musonda, who’s in Uganda for the first time, is 8-under 205, two shots ahead of Cwinyaai. On Friday, he shot level par on the par-71 course, one shot better than the latter.

Both players started off with birdies on day three, with Musonda carding 31 on the front nine, making four of them, while Cwinyaai made two, scoring 34.

However, as the duo, who teed off with Abdul Kakeeto, reached the halfway point on the course, the skies opened up.

Musonda would make three straight bogeys from holes 10 to 12, but made up for it with a birdie on the par-4 13th hole, before dropping another shot on hole 15. Cwinyaai, on the other hand, bogeyed the 10th and 11th.

“The wind and rain really changed things. The speed of the greens shifted, and the wet grass made it tricky. I lost a couple of easy shots because of the change in course condition. But I am confident that this tournament is mine,” a confident, soft-spoken Musinda said.

For Cwinyaai, day three could have been worse, and he’s happy to be in close proximity with the leader.

“At one point I was four strokes behind the leader, but I managed to close the gap to two. The game is still very much on, with one day to go, there is no room for error. I am looking forward to the final day, and I’m definitely giving it my all. I know the leader is equally determined, but I will stay focused, and keep eyes on the prize,” an optimistic Cwinyaai told media.

Anthony Otukei climbed to third place, albeit with nine shots off the leader, and two shots ahead of fourth-placed Abdul Kakeeto.

Derrick Musana, Rogers Eyoyo, and Ibrahim Ssemakula, are tied for fifth place, with a gross score of 217, while reigning Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateur Open champion- Reagan Akena, playing on his home course, is eighth with 218.

Godfrey Kambale, Elton Thembo, and Peter Tumusiime, are tied for ninth place with a score of 220.

The subsidiaries joined the Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateurs Open Golf Championship today, ensuring a full course for the final round.

The 19th Hole experience will be headlined by radio personality- Timothy Code, and Melvyn DJ.

The 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship is sponsored by Absa Bank Uganda, Aquafina, Isuzu Mac East Africa, Uganda Tourism Board, Medisell Uganda, NBS sports, and MTN MoMo.
