The 2025 Annual Bankers Sports Gala, hosted by the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA), concluded over the weekend, delivering a thrilling display of athleticism, teamwork, and camaraderie among Uganda’s leading financial institutions.

Spanning multiple days, the gala saw banks and financial organizations compete across a wide range of sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, netball, darts, and even fun games like sack races, creating a vibrant celebration of fitness and unity.

Equity Bank emerged as one of the standout performers, demonstrating excellence, discipline, and teamwork across several disciplines. The bank’s volleyball team, which had previously secured a silver medal earlier in October, continued to impress, while the Tug of War squad pulled their way to a 1st Runners-Up finish, showcasing remarkable coordination and resilience.

Adding a personal touch of inspiration, Equity Bank’s Executive Director, Claver Serumaga, clinched Gold in the CEO Walk, earning the team an extra 50 points and motivating colleagues with his example of leadership both on and off the field.

This year’s gala placed a strong emphasis on gender inclusivity, mandating at least two female players per team in selected events. Equity Bank embraced this initiative wholeheartedly, with its female athletes playing pivotal roles in the team’s overall podium finish.

Competitions were held across indoor and outdoor venues, and Equity Bank consistently impressed with high-energy performances in volleyball, football, basketball, and more. Their enthusiasm, strategy, and team spirit were evident in every game, earning admiration from competitors and spectators alike.

The gala concluded with a vibrant awards ceremony, where Equity Bank proudly accepted its third-place trophy, capping off a memorable event that celebrated sportsmanship, wellness, and unity in Uganda’s banking sector.
