The new Hoima City Stadium will be officially opened on 24 December 2025 by President Yoweri Museveni, marking a major milestone in preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The stadium, which has a seating capacity of 20,000, was constructed at a cost of USD 129 million (about Shs490.2 billion). It is one of the venues that will host 2027 AFCON games when Uganda stages the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
To celebrate the grand opening, Uganda Premier League clubs Kitara FC and KCCA FC will face off in the stadium’s first football match. The event will be free to attend, with fans admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Beyond its main pitch, the facility boasts a wide range of modern sports amenities, including a 2,000-seater indoor arena, a semi–Olympic size swimming pool, a training ground, outdoor courts, a fully equipped gym, office space and parking for more than 1,000 vehicles.
According to FUFA executive member Rogers Byamukama, the Turkish contractor, MS Suuma, has already asked FUFA to invite CAF and FIFA to assess and certify the stadium before it is officially handed over to the government.
