The Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon is set for a landmark moment on Saturday, August 22, 2026, when the fifth edition of the race takes place in Kasese with World Athletics set to livestream the event to a global audience on its official YouTube channel.
World Athletics, the global governing body for athletics, will deploy its digital team to Kasese to capture and stream the action live, bringing the race and its scenic surroundings to viewers around the world.
The livestream will make the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon the first race in Uganda to be featured live on the World Athletics global digital platform.
Speaking about the development, Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon team lead, Amos Wekesa said the World Athletics livestream is a recognition of the progress the event has made since its inception.
“Many strides have been made to get the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon to this level.
The livestream is beyond the race itself. It will showcase the beauty and tourism appeal of the area, creating a platform that will put the region on the global map,” Wekesa said.
The Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon now joins an elite list of international road races to have been livestreamed by World Athletics. The list includes the TCS Sydney Marathon, TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Valencia Marathon and Cape Town Marathon, among other major events that attract runners from across the globe.
Tusker Lite Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited, Sandra Againe, said the brand is proud to be part of the marathon’s growth and its emergence as an internationally recognised event.
“Tusker Lite has always believed in the potential of this event and what it can do for Kasese and Uganda as a whole. We are happy to be part of the journey and to see the marathon grow from strength to strength. The World Athletics livestream is another exciting milestone,” Againe said.
Organisers are targeting 8,000 participants for the 2026 edition, with runners from more than 20 countries already registered.
