While most people know him for his break-out hit collabo with Sheebah, No Offence, the young turk has steadily released a number of decent songs, and his latest Gudi Dance (albeit not a dancehall track) is fast picking on the airwaves. We sought out Beenie Gunter to discuss this new song.

Writing the song
I wrote the lyrics of the song, but the beats were brought to me by my new management and promotion agency, Perfect Play Africa. The beats were made by a Swedish producer called Chapelle Master, who is one of the producers that my new agency works with.

Recording the remix
The song was recorded both in Uganda and Sweden. When my agency brought me the beats and the song title, I had to work with a local studio to put in my vocals, which I did with my longtime Ugandan producer Imon of Southside Records. Then my agency sent back the package to Europe, where Chapelle Master did the mixing, mastering and final production.

gunterMaking the video
We haven’t yet made the video; we’re to make it either next week or the week after. We are going to shoot all of it from Uganda, but it’s going to be of a very high quality so it can fit the international market for which the song was made. We’re going to use several of the best local video producers, including Sasha Vybz and Meddie Menz.

My rating of the song
I like the song because it got me out of my comfort zone. I’ve always been a dancehall and Afro-beat singer but this is house music, and I’m happy to become a singer of varied styles. I have also got information that the audio alone is already doing well in the European markets where it has been played, and that makes this song something special to my career. It has introduced me to Europe.
