With the new Source of the Nile Bridge set to undergo renovation to restore its asphalt surface for the second time since the year started, Uganda National Road Authority spokesperson Mark Ssali has disclosed that Ugandans will not be digging into their pockets to fund the process.

“I want to assure the public that the taxpayers’ money is not what will be used to sort out the ‘defects’ on the new Nile Bridge,” Mark Ssali said.

“The contracted engineers will have to carry the cross for doing shoddy work.”

The said contractors of the Soyurce of the Nile Bridge are Zenitaka Corporation and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd

Mark Ssali says as UNRA have been open to the public on information concerning the bridge.

“At the commissioning, the engineers behind the construction always prepare a brief that contains all the information concerning the completed project, but some stakeholders choose not to digest it all,” Mark Ssali says.

UNRA yesterday announced that the bridge will undergo works to restore its asphalt surface from April 15 to July 10 this year. This was after the bridge developed cracks recently.

“Our contractor on the Source of the Nile Bridge (Zenitaka Corporation and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd.) will be undertaking restoration works on the pavement layer from April 15th to July 10th. Please see a public notice to this effect,” part of the statement read.
