Electoral Commission chairman Eng. Badru Kiggundu has apologised to Ugandans for the delay in delivery of voting materials in some parts of the country.

Uganda goes to the polls for the Presidential and Parliamentary elections today. The process was supposed to start at 7am but some centres were yet to vote by 9am, because voting materials were not available.

While addressing a news conference at EC offices in Kampala, Kiggundu said that the Electoral Commission encountered unforeseeable mishaps leading to delay in delivery of voting materials, mostly in Kampala and Wakiso.

Kampala and Wakiso are some of the opposition strongholds, but Kiggundu denied any ill motives in the delays.
He however insisted that the closing time of 4pm must be observed because the law doesn’t allow him an extension.

“Everyone who is in the line by 4pm will vote,” Kiggundu said.
