Speculations of whether or not the National Unity Platform (NUP) party will be able to hold their manifesto launch have now been settled. Police has cleared the event in to go on tomorrow on Saturday in Mbarara City as long as the health ministry guidelines on prevention of COVID-19 are adhered to.

The zonal Police commander for Ankore-Kigezi and director of counter-terrorism Police, Abas Byakagaba said as security forces, they will be no standby to see that all the attendees comply with the standard Operating Procedures.

“We shall not hesitate to disperse any form of rallies and crowds with reasonable force if they behave contrary,” said Byakagaba.

On Tuesday, Bobi Wine was stopped by the security forces from accessing his party headquarters in Kamwokya where he intended to launch his manifesto. He first pushed it to Thursday this week but following the sudden death of Dr. Anas Kaliisa, a Moslem Scholar, the party decided to schedule it to tomorrow, Saturday.
